An intraoral camera is a small handheld camera that captures detailed images inside your mouth. It helps us examine difficult-to-see areas and, just as importantly, lets you view the same images on a screen while we explain what we are seeing.
The camera can show cracks, worn enamel, plaque and tartar buildup, areas around fillings or crowns, gum inflammation, and other visible changes that are easier to understand when enlarged on screen.
Instead of only describing a chipped edge, worn filling, or area of decay, we can often show you the actual image. That makes treatment discussions clearer and helps you participate in decisions about your care.
Best for detailed color images of visible tooth surfaces, restorations, gums, and tissues inside the mouth.
Best for seeing structures that are not directly visible, such as roots, bone, areas between teeth, and conditions beneath restorations.
An intraoral camera does not replace dental X-rays, and X-rays do not replace a visual examination. Used together when appropriate, these tools give us a more complete understanding of your oral health.
During an exam, intraoral images can help us show you what we are monitoring and why a treatment may—or may not—be recommended.
