Severe tooth pain, swelling, a broken tooth, or dental trauma should be evaluated promptly. Call us so we can help determine how urgently you need to be seen and what to do next.
Examples include intense tooth pain, a cracked or broken tooth, a knocked-out permanent tooth, facial or gum swelling, a loose or displaced tooth, or a damaged restoration causing pain or sharp edges.
Call 911 or seek emergency medical care for uncontrolled bleeding, difficulty breathing or swallowing, severe facial trauma, suspected jaw fracture, rapidly spreading swelling, or other potentially life-threatening symptoms.
Handle the tooth by the crown, not the root. If dirty, rinse it gently without scrubbing. If it can be safely repositioned, place it back in the socket; otherwise keep it moist in milk and call us immediately. Time matters.
Avoid chewing on that side, keep the area clean, and save any pieces if possible. Do not use household glue. Call us so we can evaluate the tooth and determine whether repair or replacement is needed.
Dental problems often become more difficult to treat when infection, swelling, or damage progresses. If you are unsure whether something is urgent, calling the office is the safest way to determine the appropriate next step.
For an urgent dental problem, calling is the fastest way to reach us and explain what is happening.
