CAD/CAM means computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing. In dentistry, it connects digital records with software and precision manufacturing so restorations can be designed and produced through a more streamlined digital workflow.
CEREC is a chairside CAD/CAM system that can allow selected restorations to be scanned, designed, milled, and placed in the dental office. CAD/CAM as a category also includes digital workflows that may involve outside dental laboratories or different manufacturing systems.
Depending on the system, material, and clinical situation, digital workflows can support crowns, inlays, onlays, selected bridges, implant restorations, veneers, and other restorative components.
A digital workflow does not make every restoration identical or every case same-day. Material choice, tooth structure, bite forces, appearance, laboratory needs, and long-term maintainability still determine the best restorative approach.
If you need restorative treatment, we can explain where digital scanning, CAD/CAM design, CEREC, or laboratory fabrication fits into your particular case.
